MCT:October 5, 2008worth seeing only because it cost 1 dollar. it was a movie that had no idea what it wanted to be: comedy, action, drama and it did not mix the genres very well at all. It switched genre three separate times and it was painfully obvious when it did. It had so much potential, will smith always seems to deliver but this was almost as bad as Wild Wild West

MCT:October 5, 2008This just goes to show that Will Smith can play anything even a drunken superhero! I thought Will did an amazing job like always and Jason Bateman was good for a laugh! Loved the plot, special effects and everything else about this movie!

John Hancock (Will Smith) is an unhappy and reluctant superhero who is living in his own world. For some unknown reason, Hancock is depressed and has started drinking very heavily. He has saved many lives in Los Angeles over the years, but in doing so, he has no regards for damaging buildings, trains, roads, cars, or anything that gets in his way of getting the job done. The last time he captured several criminals, it cost the city $9 million to fix the damages. The public has had enough of Hancock, and they want him to stop or go to another city. Then one day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from being run over by a train. Ray is a public relations executive who now can go home to his wife and child, because Hancock was there. Ray owes Hancock his life, and he makes it his mission to change his superhero's image and have the public cheering him. Ray's wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), believes Hancock cannot be fixed, and she doesn't want Ray to be hurt. Douglas Young (the-movie-guy) -

This movie is a good example of a great idea, but very poor execution.
Hard to review without giving too much away, but I think it is safe to say that Hancock is a super hero who has little insight into himself, his actions, or his impact on others nor does he care. As various aspects of the storyline unfold we are brought to a place where the story could have gone the route of true intrigue and incorporated plotlines that are rarely seen in "super hero films."
The problem is that these issues are simply thrown against the wall and they try and see which ones will stick. The writers leave so much unfinished and unexamined that by the end the viewer is left completely unsatisfied.
The performances were quite good as one might expect from Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron and they did quite well with what they had to work with, but it could have gone so much farther down the hole.
Check it out because it begs some interesting questions and has some interesting visuals, but don't imagine that this movie will move past tepid because it won't. -

well... hancock is really a quite special type of superhero, dont u think? at d beginning, it's kinda funny, but when Mary show her superpower, everything had come to a twist... hmm, at lis it got a good ending afterall...

Hancock is a very good film
Will Smith, as always, does an outstanding job as Hancock and the special effects were pretty good too but the plot is a little thin.
If you're a fan of Will Smith and his roles in action, sci-fi, comedy or a blend of all three, go see this film. -

I just love Will Smith in this movie. I think he's the main attraction for me to watch this movie in the first place.He didn't disappoint but I wished the movie has a stronger script to go with the already incredible theme and storyline. Charlize Theron? Hmm...

Was absolutely amazing. I love the movie, its not your everyday super hero at first and then you would never think he would change or that the guy who was helpin him that his wife was one to. Its AMAZING!!!!

I don't know what to think about this movie. Is it a comedy, a drama, a thriller, I don't know! It left huge questions unanswered such as the origins of Hancock and his universal identity (Is he a God, an Angel, an Alien???) It wasn't as good as I expected it to be and it failed to create the emotions its makers wanted the audience to feel.

To all U guys out there who say that this is a good movie... Your wrong... It was FANTASTIC! And to all you crazy loons who say that it was "Terrible" and "a waste of your time"... YOU'RE STUPID! I thought that this was an amazing action packed movie with a neat and surprising twist. And the humorous moments were a plus! Overall... I LOVED IT!

I love action movies. Haven't seen the movie yet, but from what I've seen on the previews, it looks like a great movie, something that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I love watching Will Smith because in his own way, he gets a little comedic with it, like he's not afraid to change the story lines, push the limit a little bit. He's very mannly and handsome!!
