Semi Pro's maybe not the best movie of Will Ferrell or even not in his top 5 but believe it or not it worked for me. Yeah it could be better directed and produced, it could be funnier or maybe being a basketball related movie on the 70's decade, they could invite some pro players of the era so it could be more realistic but I think that the movie couldn't give up for more. The movie has the typical Will Ferrell humor, with lots of physical comedy and sex jokes, not all the jokes and gags are funny but it has some moments like the one with the bear fight and when they're performing the halftime show that takes you off a real and sincere laugh. The cast is good, Will Ferrell funny as always although its not his best performance, Woody Harrelson is convincing enough but I just felt him a little forced, Maura Tierney was good but not great and Andre Benjamin as Clarence delivers a very good acting job. In conclusion, this movie only purpose is to entertain and I think he barely accomplishes it. So if you wanna see this movie turn off your brain, relax and enjoy.
It's probably my least fave Will Ferrell movie he's done, but there are some pretty funny parts. It was worth it to me to watch it just for this one scene after he fights the bear and Will is running around the ring freaking out and screaming:
"Everybody panic! Oh my God, there's a bear loose in the coliseum! There will be no refunds! Your refund will be escaping this deathtrap with your life! If you have a small child, use it as a shield! They love the tender meat! Cover your sodas! Dewie loves sugar!" LMFAO
Will and Woody what a pair! Lol,This was pretty good.Got some great alughsout of it.If you like Will Ferrell's zany/silly /stupid humor (which I do) you will love this movie.Good stuff,Next time you are in the mood for a comedy check this one out =)
great brilliant a great sport-comedy film. will ferrell as jackie moon aba flint michigan tropics owner, coach, and basketball player(it familiar to paul newman play as hockey player and coach in "slap shot"). woody harrelson(but also '92 basketball film in "white man can't jump")as monix to help to win the score. so i enjoy the scene that were brawling basketball court during the game and jackie moon fighting with the bear in the basketball court.
Familiar territory for Will Ferrell as he tries to recapture the success of Anchorman. He won't do it like this, though; not painful to watch, but there are far better films to spend time watching
I fell asleep through this, it was just so boring, same ol' cash grab of a movie. For once I didn't feel bad stealing this from the internet. lol ;-) Don't bother.
We all knew it was coming. The point in Will Ferrals career where he does a movie that just SUCKS! Kicking and Screaming was painful and stale, Blades of Glory dervied nearly all its laughs from the same shit joke, but this......this didnt even TRY to be funny. There was about a 10% effort on the laugh meter. The other 90% of the movie was just.......lame stuff happening. It just plodded along at the most dull of paces. Watching the day to day routine of a Koala is more fun than this. One of the most un-funny comedies I've ever seen and a major gravy stain on Ferral's white shirt career.
i became a will ferrel fan after i saw anchorman but lately it seems like hes always the same charachter and the plot is always the same, its just a different sport. this one has some funny lines, but thats it. thats sad cos hes a funny guy.
I couldn't watch past the first 10 mins - whats wrong with hollywood these days - they forgot how to be funny, and throw together any old formula and make it as filthy as they can.
Really funny in places but living in the shadow of the mighty Anchor Man. Scenes with the Hippy and the moon shot ("it's written in glitter man!") and commentator Dick Pepperfield and quite brilliant, but the story isn't up to much. Worth watching if you love Will Ferrell.
A typical Will Ferrel movie mixed in with basketball and the 70's. Funny all the way through, but not a classic like Ferrel's other films. ... A lot of known people in the cast.
hey its really not more than you could expect funny movie, got a few laughs some parts were a bit cringeworthy took a little to get into though it was okay
