Plot: Four teenagers (Birch, Harrington, another girl, another boy) attending a private school find a mysterious hole in the ground leading to an underground structure originally built as a bomb shelter.
Looks like it could be a good movie, will keep my eyes peeled.
To put it bluntly, I found myself continually saying "Wow, what a bitch!". Birch plays the main character so well it evokes some true emotion. The story is kind of hectic and jumpy, but works itself out in the end. Although, I'm still trying to figure out what the opening scene had to do with anything! It's genuinely creepy and unique. Worth a look, if not just for Keira.
The Hole is a twisted film, of young love and obsession. It is the story of four teens that attend a private school. They ditch class one day. One of the girls, harbors a secret desire for one of the boys. She devises a plan for them to hang out, in this abandoned bomb shelter which she had stumbled across. What starts out fine, turns terribly convoluted and deleterious.
I thought Thora Birch was amazingly dark and wonderful in the role of Liz. This movie made me think back to fatal Attraction's rabbit boiling days, In that fact that one person can become so consumed with desire that they push themselves over the edge.
This film definitely puts a new light on getting what you want, and what you will do to get there. The Hole is a good thriller horror. It shows Keira Knightley in one of her first main roles. It is worth the watch.
A dark, claustrophobic thriller that exceeds in everything from the typical all-American teen horror films.
When four teenagers decide to bunk a school trip to Wales and spend the weekend in an abandoned under-ground bunker, things quickly turn from terrific to terrifying as they find themselves trapped with no means of escape or any hope of rescue. In comparison to other modern teen-horror movies 'The Hole' manages to score reasonable marks for originality, suspense and fright-power. Playing on the fears of claustrophobia and total isolation, it successfully disrupts the senses and makes for some decent horror viewing. Having said this, there are still plenty of clichés within the text. The popular guy, the popular girl, the lone geek girl, the isolated location, one pointless death, lots of fornication, plenty of expletives and a link to insanity to name just a few. Easily identifiable they are, but they're acceptable considering this is a relatively low-budget horror flick. It harbours quite a good cast though; Keira Knightley, Laurence Fox and Desmond Harrington are all on top form as the rebellious but doomed teenagers. Thora Birch is also adequate in the lead role, although I couldn't help but notice her English accent kept slipping a little, and also a lot of her crying scenes looked a little to contrived and therefore lessened the credibility of the film slightly. Despite these small flaws, the film still works on an interesting and as I said quite original narrative level. Although the plot sometimes seems predictable, it manages to really turn the tables at the conclusion, which results in a rather memorable premise. 'The Hole' will please its intended audience no doubt, and perhaps even entertain the sceptics. Not bad for a teen horror movie.
Decent movie, but how dare they changing their poser to a picture of Keira? Sure, she is huge now, but with her rather small role this is not her picture, but Thora Birch's.
Silly.
Yeah I thought it weird also that she had her face on the poster when she was like the first to die...but oh well...it's still a great movie
It's funny that since Keira Knightley has exploded her head is the only thing you can see on the film/DVd poster, and yet she plays such a small part in the move, especially compared with Thora Birch. Oh well, maybe my Thora will eventualy get her due.
OMG!! i love this movie!! a little creepy but good to watch!! i love Thora Birch. i do admit it was a little hard to follow but all the same a great movie to watch!!
omg what a scary movie!!! and knightly dies too!!! but it's really interesting and sad the whole time and keeps you on the edge of your seat, literrally!!!
