Plot: A pair of young lovers flee Detroit with a suitcase full of contraband, and head for Los Angeles with the police as well as the Detroit mob on their tail.
bring it on, even Brad pitt is utterly cool in this, hes a stoner and with pineapple express just out, me thinks they took Brads take on a stoner and ran with it man!!!
A crime/action caper filled with Tarantino's trademark dialogue and pop culture reference woven into a romantic story filled with gangsters, pimps, cocaine, hookers and Hollywood types. The scene between Chris Walken and Dennis Hopper is one of moviedom's best, but for my money James Gandolfini shines as a brutal (yet philosophical) mob enforcer, showcasing a great talent even in his early movie years.
The thing is I hated the two main characters & I hated their stupid true romance & I hated the movie's silly ending otherwise a good movie, Tarantino's original ending was better
Continuing my old classics cinema experience, this week my local theater was playing True Romance. I have not seen this movie in such a long time and kind of forgot most of it, which worked out for the better and the experience.
You could tell this movie was written by Tarantino because of the slick dialog and typical Tarantino style characters and 'jokes'. This is probably Christian Slaters crowning moment in his career and I have yet to see him in anything better. He was perfect for the role and done a fantastic job playing an Elvis fanatic who falls for a call girl then gets in trouble after a situation involving her pimp played by a superb performance from Gary Oldman.
It is also worth noting that Brad Pitt had a small role in this but what a funny role it is. This movie is one of the many great classic from the 90's era where Tarantino was the king. Even after 10 years or so this movie holds strong and definitely recommend it. Lots of fun.
I've wanted to own this film for years, after seeing it a long time ago on V. Finally went out and bought it and it's really put the cat among the pigeons when talking about my favourite films. Fantastic, and I could watch it again and again. Stunning cast and everyone played their parts so well. Loved James Gandolfini and Gary Oldman. Great script, and there's not much more to say on this. If you like action, like a good story and appreciate acting, you have to give this a go.
true romance was a great movie. christian slater & patricia arquette play two ppl who fall deeply in love one night. the nest day, they get married b/c they both said they loved each other. the tables turn one night when clarence (slater) goes on a rampage & kills alabama (arquette's) husband. after he completes that mission, he comes back to his wife with a case thats suppose to be his wife's clothes instead its half million of coacane. now the couple is on their way to a movie business where they want to sell the coac to a mob producer who will trade it for cash. now the mob, cops, agents r all on their tail. clarence & alabama must do watever it takes for those ppl to not get their hands on the coac. this is a very entertaning movie. the whole casts acting was great. action was great. romance was great & violence was great. this is a must see for all crime & gangster fans. one of the greatest movies ever made 5/5 stars.Flixster - Share Movies
This is an amazing film, directed by Tony Scott, screenplay by Quintin Tarantino and it shows, this has QT's stamp all over it. It's a violent love story with a wonderful cast. I love the Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper scene, its the best in the movie. I still would love to see QT make this the way he wrote it originally, that would be superb.
Way back before Tony Scott decided to hide his lack of talent by shaking the camera, he and Quentin Tarantino created "True Romance" with the marvelous acting abilities of about twenty of Hollywood's finest. Leads Patty Arquette and Christian Slater might be a teeny bit underwhelming, but every single supporting role is way beyond cool. Sam Jackson has about two lines with an almost unrecognizable Gary Oldman and wham! Dennis Hopper sits up to Chris Walken, James Gandolfini and company for some torture before... Tom Sizemore and the late Chris Penn are hilarious as the cops on every one's trail. Brad Pitt as the stoner, Rubinek and Pinchot as movie producers. And "Iceman" Val Kilmer puts forth a sublime Elvis. It's fun, violent, sexy and broke audiences in for Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and other movies to come. A wild ride that truly delivers.
Can't believe it's taken me this long to see this movie! It's pretty standard fare to be honest, but the great ensemble cast help this rise above the usual on-the-run-from-the-mob movies. Walken is terrifying and there's something very hot about Arquette in just her undies with a shotgun!
A cracking action/thriller as a couple go on the run with everyone after them. A very entertaining film.
This is Quentin Tarantino's first movie. He was the writer. Christian Slater plays a character based on Tarantino. This was made when Patricia Arquette was hot. It's very violent, but a lot of good characters. Brad Pitt plays a cool stoner. Very good movie.
Move over Jack and Rose, this is the couple that should forever be remembered as the poster childs for true love and madness.
This movie is crazy! There's loads of stars and this couple is just crazy! They have an odd view of love. I'm just glad it ended happily.
An overrated movie with an ensemble cast. The Walken/Hopper scene is great, it's the only thing I will remember this movie by.
Too bad that there are so many good actors in the movie. Most of 'em do some very quick scenes and then they're out. Brad Pitt does also a very memorable scene as the pothead Lloyd.
The movie is a basic Tarantino film (his script) with a lot of dialogue that basically have no higher purpose. It will entertain you and give some very good scenes but still it left me kinda cold.
I should give this another chance. The performances were spectacular, but I didn't get the point of it.
A brilliant cast of actors in this action adventure about a couple on the run from the cops and mob. Sort of a modern day Bonnie and Clyde. Brad Pitt! Brad Pitt! Brad Pitt! Enough said.
Nonostante la sceneggiatura di Tarantino e il cast di rilievo, non mi è piaciuto quasi nulla di questo film. Probabilmente, se fosse stato solo per la regia di Tony Scott non l'avrei nemmeno preso in considerazione.
What's not to like about this movie. Well, maybe Christian Slater. This movie is jam packed with talented actors. The screenplay was written by Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott, who are both very talented. Speaking of talent, you have Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken in the same flick. Then you have all these other staple actors like Chris Penn and Val Kilmer popping up. Whether Tarantino likes it or not, this movie turned out to be a great experience. He could always go back and redo it now that he's loaded. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Slater, he still manages to pull off a decent performance and make it his own. The script stands true to any other QT story, filled with great dialogue and a wonderful story.
Awesome! Best ensemble cast ever: Slater, Arquette, Hopper, Oldman, Sizemore, Kilmer, Penn, Walken, L. Jackson. All with a Tarantino script. Anything else?
A completely odd movie. It was disturbing dark and unpredictable. It was the first glimpse into the amazing tarrentino
A great film with a great cast. An iconic film that only captures your attention with ease. Plus, Brad Pitt has an excellent cameo that is really quite funny.
